Traction bars....

I just installed rear traction bars on an 02' Ram, and the difference was amazing! Now before you start yelling and try to kick me out, let me explain. It's my friends truck! The reason I mention this is I was wondering if anyone knows of a product like this for us? No matter how hard I tried, I couldn't torch those tires! I couldn't even tell of any wheel hop around corners. Anyone have any info?

all Expys have either rear coil or air springs . . . traction bars are designed for use on leaf springs.

I knew that, but I was wondering of some similar product for our application.

the whole purpose of traction bars on a leaf sprung, rear drive vehical is to limit wheel spin / wheel hop.

The fact that you can not do either is a GOOD THING and could be due to at least one of the following:

1. Expys are awfully heavy and have a good amount of weight on the rear axle . . . my 2WD weighs 5260 lbs with 2620 lbs of that on the rear axle. Compare that to my 2WD company pick-up that weighs about 4980 lbs with 1750 lbs on the rear axle and you see that the truck has more traction problems the the Expy. I also have a limited slip rear diff and it takes a pretty slick road before I could even think about rear wheel spin without powerbraking her. Is your LS equipt?

2. the '97-'98 5.4L isn't quite as strong ast the 5.4L PI that was phased in to the Expy about June of '99 takes some real power to spin them, even in an open diff equipt Expy. If you are WANTING to spin the hides you may well need more power!

If you just want to tighten up the ride and control the tippy in the turns feel, you can get a Helwig rear sway bar and some firmer shocks.
