I just traded my old truck for a 1974 high boy and I plan on putting new wheels and tires on it. The truck currently has polished aluminum pacers and some crappy wild country tires on it. I think I want to go with some kind of steel wheels because I think they look more period correct than aluminum ones. If anyone with a high boy on steel wheels could share some pics so I can get an idea of what I want to get that would be awesome.
Thanks for the quick reply. You know of anywhere that I could get a set of those? I've checked all of my usual sources and no luck. Also what is the width on the stock wheels?
I bought some off of eBay, they showed up yesterday. 16.5" They cost me $280 plus shipping, for a total of $440. If you can find them locally, you can get a much better deal. I'm very happy with them, they have no curb rash or scratches.
I was going to leave them with their faded finish, but hickory, now that I see your shiny slots, I may have to polish mine up, too!
Sorry for the hijack, 1974F26. If you go with a set of steel wheels, let me know, I have a decent set of 8-lug factory hub caps you can have...a few dings and scratches, but still quite nice. Somewhere on here, there is a thread on how to cut the center out of the front caps (just like in red's photo) for your hubs. They end up looking great.

Don't worry about it, I like slots too. You got a picture of the caps?
Those pacers must have been the hot ticket back in the day. My 74 has the same exact wheels on it. Since you are going to get different wheels might I suggest moving to 16" wheels. The 16.5 tires are getting tough to find these days.
@1974F26 as has been suggested you can still maintain that look with the 16" version and have better tire choices .. Where do you live maybe I can help locate some ? I wouldn't expect to pay more than $20 - $35 each depending on condition

I live in central florida. I'm going with BFG all-terrains and they make a 35x12.50x16.5 so I would probably get those.
The black accent paint will need to be reapplied, and maybe a few small dings to work out, but they are pretty good. These caps are usually kind of hard to come by.
Something probably harder to come by will be the steel wheels. You can come across 16" fairly easily, but 16.5" are not as easy anymore. I am on the hunt for some myself. That is why I have the extra hub caps, I've been buying them whenever I see them for sale, for when I finally come across some good steel wheels. I love the slots I just got, but I want to also have factory steel wheels and caps to swap out from time to time.
