I just bought my 1998 Expy 4X4 last week and I am still getting to know the truck. I've noticed that it wanders in it's lane more than I am used to, not dangerously, just a little irritating. One of the things I noticed when I was going over the truck is that the 265X70X17" Michelin M+S tires are "E" rated but there is only 30lbs pressure in each tire. I was thinking of upping the pressure to between 50-60lbs. Do any of you think that would help the straight line drivability or do you think a front steering stabilizer would help? I saw that JC Whitney has a Moog kit for $99.
I have NO experience with steering stabilizers but am not averse to installing it myself. It could also be front suspension bits that need work, but to be honest, it doesn't feel like that.
BTW, if this is covered in another thread, feel free to direct me. I tried searching and it pulled up a whole bunch of unrelated stuff.
May have answered my own question.....dig MORE digging and found a forum where folks with half-ton rated trucks are running 60 front and 80 rear. We shall see....
IMO, you need to go through the entire front suspension to make sure everything is up to par. These trucks are very hard on the front suspension and things do wear out. Do a shake down to make sure your upper and lower ball joints are OK, the tie rod ends are OK, the idler arm is OK, etc.
If I am understanding what you mean by a steering stabilizer, that is for off road kind of stuff. There should be no need for such a thing on the street with a properly functioning stock front suspension.
