My PS isn't as smooth as I would desire. Always wandering and very easy to move without any response to the driver. Some allotment is due to 35 Tires, but the steering is by instinct a bit spongy.
Always some alteration of pressure and slackness to sense in the steering wheel.
Ok, thats all new to me, never had an american PS before.
What is your expert knowledge, is there room to improve our steering?
nevertheless proud owner of 1977 F150 4x4!!

Check all the suspension bits like tie rod ends... very little wear can have exaggerated effects. Jack the front end up and start wiggling the wheels in various directions to see what is loose. That will give you a good start.
Also take a look at tire pressure. At 50 psi(mnfg max rating) my 35's had an uneasy wandering. I finally settled on 36 psi all around and its much more predictable now.
Alignment matters also. Some positive caster helps keep steering stable and centered up. At least 0.5 degree positive. Have you had alignment checked?
It is a bit involved to change caster on a 4 x 4... either offset bushings on the axle/steering knuckle joint or axle to spring shims. When I had mine checked, caster was a bit more positive than OE specs and I was happy w/o adjustment.
These trucks have too much assist imo. On first generation lightnings (93-95) steering feel could be improved by removing the spring from the pump outlet fitting and cutting a few loops off.
