Many symptoms of worn ball joints that can be attributed to something else.
The best thing to do is to get the truck up in the air and do a visual and physical inspection of them.
* Front end rattles
* Poor tire wear
* Alignment is inconsistent
* Etc..

Jack the truck up and use the jack handle like a pry bar to lift up on the tire. A worn ball joint will allow the tire to have slack in it. Pull out on top of the tire to check the upper one.

I could hear my brake pad scraping the rotor slightly around a turn and some clunking in the front end when going over bumps. I check for slop by getting eye level with the ball joint, grabbing the hub and moving it vertically back and forth with quite a bit of pressure to see if it is worn.
