what is best way to monitor 06, 6.0 ?

i understand monitoring the 6.0 is important and would like to get set-up. i see there a lot of options. Was wondering, if i don't want to tune, and would like to have monitor somewhat hidden, what are the better options?
have been thinking of putting unit in extra storage tray by steering wheel, or on visor or have info come up on a rear view mirror monitor
would like a clean install, not something stuck on the dash

thanks

I need to clean this up a little but I used some hardware from Ram Mounts
RAM Mounting Systems, Inc.
They have one that is meant to hold a cell phone that works really good
for the SGII (or a Snicker Bar)

You basically choose:

Scangauge or Edge CTS as standalone

DashBoss for iOS or Torque for Android and from that you have:

Smartphones which are compact or Tablets which are larger.

Last, laptop running AE, FORscan or Ford IDS

Another post I can't rep ya' for Josh...

and OP: you don't even have to watch the screens on Torque or DashBoss, just set them up to datalog what you want and keep 'em in your pocket, or glovebox -- but the graphics and gauges are pretty cool to see real time. Just have someone else drive, 'cause you'll be wanting to play with it/change the look, etc... (experience tells me this is true, and the wife likes to drive with horses in tow, so it's all good)

Both DB and Torque do -- don't know about the others. DB has advantage of external inputs (like an EGT...), there are some Torque folk working on that but it isn't there yet. Torque has ability to take multiple PIDs and do calcs with them and display as a single gauge, with all other capabilities of monitoring/alarming/etc. on this now created gauge. I use the delta temp one, but not for alarms, just set a gauge type that captures high/low value and I can glance at.

I think either DB or Torque are way ahead value-wise and accelerating away from the rest -- it's what the app world is all about, right?!

Diagnostics, Data Logging, Clearing (and interpreting in english) Codes, GPS based trip maps, G-force/time/gps related everything, where will it end?! I have barely scratched the surface, and that brings us back to why the wife drives, and is happy that I'm (mostly) quiet...

The big thing that SGII has going for it is the instant ON
by hitting the button before you turn the key and wait for
wifi syncing to catch up.

For local driving, I use the Scangauge. ($150) (it stays in the truck, too ugly to steal)

For long trips, a 7" tablet with Torque Pro mounted in a RamMount on the windshield. ($110) (I remove tablet and the RamMount after the trip)

Video output? For what?

The Torque Pro app has visual and audio alarms that the user sets the values for....the Scangauge has no alarms.

The Scangauge comes on automatically when you start the truck, the Torque Pro requires you to open the app on your phone/tablet, then it automatically connects.

Fwiw DashBoss has output to external Monitors and audio.

Visual and audio alarms

Ability to accept external sensors

All it takes is opening the app to use it.

Hmmm, I'm still Bluetooth but am thinking of going hardwire when I get a tablet. My routine is: plug in the adaptor fire up the app, in a second the 2 are connected, turn the truck to On (for glow plugs) it takes another second or two to connect to the ECU, but I wait a good 20-30 seconds to go to start anyway, and I'm usually watching voltages 1st and then while cranking. And it's fun to see my one sync gauge go from red to green . Sure would like to get the second Sync that you SGII folks seem to have... (I say that because you are looking at the same PID, as far as I can tell) -- I could just create a second gauge and call it FICM Sync I guess...

Regarding the RAMMOUNTING products....

Has anyone screwed one into the dashboard above the radio? Does it hold or is it too soft? Or is the window mounted suction preferred?

I think an ipad mini on the dash would be good for the DashBoss product. I'm currently using an iphone for it. BTW, I much prefer the DashBoss product to the Scangauge and I have them both.
