So, I have had my truck for about 10 years now and have "cleaned" up my engine and engine compartment. I am now trying to get it started after around 4 years. First was having problems with using the key as it was getting stuck and kept wanting to turn over even with the key out. I had 2 new solenoids(although same brand), but seemed to trace the problem to a bad ground(as most have said). On the weekend, I found I wasn't getting fuel to the carb. All I had to do was blow air down the lines to siphon the gas to the pump. Now I have fuel at the carb but now it is leaking and I believe the solenoids are toast. Just curious if this is anything someone else might of had an issue with?
1977 F-150 2wd regular cab with the 351modified engine and c-6 transmission. All stock, no modifications to engine or transmission. Pretty sure, I will need a new solenoid, and maybe new gaskets for the carb?
So is it turning over now? Pulling the starter is easy and have it tested at Auto Zone etc. it's free .. It's good to eliminate that as possible weak link .. A carb rebuild is a must on something that has been sitting that long .. Check all rubber lines for rot too
The engine was turning over, then just stopped. I replaced the solenoid with another - same brand, and as soon as I touched the negative cable to the battery, it started turning over. I agree that a carb rebuild would be the best thing to do, just have 0 experience with carbs and was hoping for just a gasket replacement. The starter, solenoid, cables are all brand new.
I worked on one in May with about the same symptoms and replaced the solenoid and in the end turned out to be the started .. Here is some info to help you with the carb http://www.therangerstation.com/tech..._2150_carb.pdf
