hi all, i have a 300 with a 2 year old carb. a couple of days ago it started acting up, would idle really nice, but touch the gas peddle and it would bog down and backfire. now it doesn't even idle, just chugs for a few seconds and blows gas out the carb. today i tore down the carb, and didn't find and dirt in it. everything seems to be intact, but it still pores gas out. i cleaned everything with carb cleaner, checked for worn or damaged parts, still no luck.
i blocked off the fuel lines, still the same thing so it's not the fuel pump.
thanks

the engine was rebuilt a few years ago, with only 30 000 miles on it. the timing was checked last year and was fine. i can't check it now because it won't even run long enough for me to run from the door to the hood.lol
spent 3 hours today trying to get a rebuild kit for the carb, the parts store i bought it from doesn't even carry a rebuild kit for it, and none of the other stores in london could even look it up.
finally found one which should be here tomorrow.
thanks

well i rebuilt the carb, still doing it. but the rubber piston was slightly torn, so it needed to be done. anyone have any ideas? i pulled the fuel filter out and it's clean, blew the lines out and found nothing.
thanks

Was a fiber timing gear used? If it was, replace it.
If you can, get somebody to help you so you can check the timing. I bet you will find your problems there.
any way to check the timing when i can't even get it to start? this things really pi**ing me off now. when i turn it over it just floods, shoots gas out the carb and then backfires and spins the engine backwords.
thanks all

Pull the distributor cap off, and use a remote starter or have someone hit the key, and see if the rotor spins.
It's not sounding any less like a bad timing gear.
spins fine, seems to be a little off of timing, just waiting for the poof of tdc. will be able to tell better when the coil gets here. also going to do the points and condenser while i'm here. hopefully they will be here by thursday.
thanks
