68 carb problems?

ok so here it is... I got the truck running and everything and got it to stay running but everytime i give it gas it dies. Im guessing its the power valve on the carb and i just rebuilt the carb today. I haven't put it on yet so idk if it fixed the problem but if it doesn't what else should i try?

Well...since you just rebuilt the carb, I wouldn't really worry about asking "what else" till you know for sure that you still have a problem. Chances are that you got it licked, as long as you cleaned out the carb really well when you rebuilt it and set everything up correctly. And if it dies when you give it gas it's more likely the accelerator pump that was giving you the problem. Check to make sure it's working properly by looking down the carb throat when you give it gas (with the engine off) and look for two good solid streams of fuel squirting into the barrels.

well even though i rebuilt it and stuff im still have carb problems. i can now give it gas and it doesnt die but as soon as i take the choke off it dies. even after it warms up. when i look into the carb there was only one stream of fuel coming out of the drivers side of the carb and the two screws under the carb, well the one on the drivers side doesnt do anything. so basicly theres a fuel restriction somewhere in it. plan on taking it apart again and putting new jets in it and dipping the carb. the rebuild kit i got from orileys was really...well lacking of all the parts. (IE; jets, screws, and a few other minor stuff)

Get a can of carb cleaner and when you open it back up, spray through every orifice you can find, then follow that up by blowing them all out with compressed air. Do this even after dipping it. A bit of crap lodged in a passage somewhere can cause problems such as you're having.

Not much point to replacing the jets, they're not really a wear item. Unless they've gotten buggered by a heavy hand with a screwdriver, they're probably just fine.

Did you follow up the carb cleaner with compressed air? I've found that the carb cleaner loosens things up but it often take a good blast of air to clear 'em out. The dipping is a good plan, but still use air to blow everything out afterwards. I've had too many instances over the years when I got lazy and didn't want to bother with hooking up the compressor and just figured the carb cleaner would be enough, only to wind up pulling everything back apart and having to do it all over again when I still had running problems. I'm a slow learner, but I get there eventually...
