I have a couple of questions. One is the sticker on my degas bottle--is it the new sticker for the proper coolant level? The second is what could cause intermittent degas puke. My temp splits are 6 to 8 at temp and not blowing anything out the tail pipe. Here the last couple of days it has been the hottest so far this year and wonder if that could play a part. If anything I'm thinking maybe the cap may be going bad but it still clicks. Sorry about the crooked pic--dang phone wont let me edit when I download to computer
Yep new sticker. Make sure the level is at the new MIN line.
And yes a bad cap can cause coolant to puke
Josh
Thanks. In the pic it was warmed after a 6 mile drive. After driving to work and sitting for about 4 hours the level was about 1/4 below the max line. I making plans to just a flush and fill, egr delete, and new cooler (while I'm in there) Think I'll go with one of the kits from XDP
Mine has some amount of fluctuation depending on engine temp, but cold soak always settles to the same resting spot.
How much is it puking? I noticed on an F550 at work it seemed like the coolant "vapor" would weep (vent) thru the cap and leak out and settle on the degas. Just a couple really small puddles near the cap.
It's not much--what you see around the edge was from when the dealer "topped" it off when I bought it (can't get that stuff off) When I cleaned it up after that I left a little at the cap and cleaned a strip in the middle to see if it happened again. I have never seen it wet but just a little strip in the same spot-- I think kinda like what you are saying. It's coming from the same spot from the cap maybe the cap has a bad spot in it?
Since I don't have this sticker, does Ford sell them or maybe I can just measure and make a mark with a sharpie?
On the degas bottle there is actually a formed line at the max (at least mine has it) which matches the sticker. You could measure down from that line (if your bottle has it) and have your min mark. The sticker is about 1 inch to 3/4 inch top to bottom--I can measure if needed and post up tomorrow.
agreed 69cj. Just picked up the new cap. Will pick up some distilled water this evening and change the cap and check the level in the morning when the motor has cooled.
Thanks. Gonna pick up a new cap tomorrow and will check the sealing surface and fix as needed as well.
Just to update--looks like my old cap was bad. Haven't had a single bit of degas residue since I've changed it and the windex did the trick on cleaning the residue off.
