Here's the one I have. Plan on using it behind an NP205 transfer case in one of my 4x4 trucks. Pretty small units. Each overdrive uses the same base unit with a different adapter between it and the input device (transmission/transfer case) as you may have read. They are rated up to 1,000 horsepower for street use. So, everything to the right of the black bolt studs is the adapter for the 205. You remove the real seal housing on the 205 and this bolts in its place. Same story with most of the other adapters. If you sell a vehicle but keep the overdrive you can always get a different adapter and put it in another vehicle, depending on availability. I might get one for my M22 in my TA and my C6 in the Ranger I have.
Well I've found an entire engine(390) complete that was running less than a year ago.Reason the guy took it out of his car was do too bad oil leaks, its out of a 67 galaxie and has factory 4bbl .
I went too look at the 67/390 engine today and the first thing I noticed was a 352 stamp on the front of the block just under the drivers side cyl head, owner says he's certain its the original 390 ?? is this possible??
TA455, make sure you have either a seal or a sealed bearing between the 205 and GV adapter. This prevents cross contamination of the ATF in the GV and the gear oil of the 205. I picked up an older used GV and had a heckuva time finding a sealed bearing, even GV couldn't help. Apparently they upgraded the adapter in the 90s to recieve a press in seal. If you have the older adapter and don't have the sealed bearing for the 205, let me know, I'll see if I can dig up the part number for the bearing.

Many FE blocks have "352" cast into the front.
Check the stroke. A '67 4bbl 390 is going to be a 10.5 CR motor, Premium Fuel and lots of it. It will also have buttery non-hardened valve seats.
The oil filter adapter on FE car engines, as in your picture, mounts the filter vertically. In the truck application, it is mounted horizontally to avoid filter interference with the crossmember. You will either have to use a shorter oil filter. install an FE truck filter adapter, or install a remote filter mount kit. Just in case you didn't know.
Cleaning up the 390, 4bbl intake has the large S, is this a decent intake? or will an aftermarket aluminum give me a lot more HP gains?
S is an ok manifold. Not sure what increase you would get with an aftermarket manifold. FEs suffer more on the exhaust side, so good headers would be more important than the intake to start with.

I didn't see this message from you at first, but I just checked and the 205 adapter for the GV does have a seal built right into it. Thanks for the heads up.

Thanks for the heads up, I did notice the oil adapter on my 352 is different but I didn't realize why? thanks again

Either the vertical or horizontal oil filter adapter will work on a F100/350 w/a an FE engine, but...
If the vertical adapter is used and the left engine rubber insulator breaks (a somewhat common occurrence), the engine will rear up and when coming back down, the filter will hit the cross member...splitting it open.
Not pleasant!
The standard oil filter is Motorcraft FL-1A .. Motorcraft FL-300 can be substituted as it's shorter. This filter was factory installed in 1975/78 Mustang II's w/a 302.
Ford shoehorned the 302 into this engine compartment (Mustang II is basically a reskinned Pinto ).
The FL-1A couldn't be used, as there wasn't enough clearance between the engine cross member and the engine block to install it.
I've thought about this also but I have an un-molested 66 ranger and for that reason everything that I'm altering/changing can be put back too stock by simply un-bolting and re painting if desired.

Great info ND, I guess I'll be using the one of my 352 too be on the safe side and I'll also be ordering new mounts
