05 f-250 5.4 to 12v cummins conversion build

Ok guys i have been encouraged to start a build thread on my conversion project so here ya go.

Project overview

1. remove 5.4l gas hog, no power having dog from my truck
2. remove 5r110 transmission, and np273 transfer case
3. clean, inspect, re-gasket/seal, and paint my 94 12v cummins turbo diesel
4. install said cummins in my truck
5. install nv4500 manual 5 speed transmission (because i love shifting gears, and ooh that sound )
6. change np273 transfer case input shaft to 29 spline input shaft, and re-install t-case
7. install intercooler from 05-07 diesel superduty (this is a direct fit)
8. modify stock engine harness to fit cummins engine (and maintain stock appearance)
9. Drop fuel tank, and remove in tank pump, replace with draw straw
10. hook up vacuum lines, a/c , and power steering lines
11. do all the above as cheap as possible, without cutting corners. wait is that even possible???
12. enjoy increased towing ability, fuel mileage, and sex apeal.

Ok so hear is what i have been able to get done so far

located the new heart, and purchased it for $1,500, it has 160,000 miles on it, it runs good, and has a new oil pan, harmonic balancer. installed by the previose owner for his fummins project that he decided against going through with.

removed the headlights, grill, bumper, condensor, trans cooler, and radiator.

recruited the help of a good friend to pull the gas engine out.

I wish you the best on your cummins conversion, but I do believe by the time you are done you will have learned some new swear words.

Unloaded and started cleaning the new engine.

Snatched the oil pan off, and look inside, i was very happy with how everything looked inside.

removed all accessories, cleaned/degreased them (with the help of my little bro's), replaced all seals, and gaskets, re installed oil pan, fixed the killer dowel pin, degreased and prepped the blocked, masked it all of and painted everything with primer, then paint.

re installed all accessories

had the fly wheel resurfaced, and re installed it with a new clutch and pressure plate kit.

Dropped the trans and t-case down (i didnt have a trans jack, but i figured out a neat way to do it with ropes lol)

Installed my new diesel conversion specialist motor mounts (nice mounts / not nice people and i will never do business with them again), and installed the motor

and this is where i am now, i have started working on my nv4500 getting it prepped to install, and i split the t-case, and removed the input shaft, prepped it for the new input shaft. waiting on the ups guy to bring me some parts, i will get some pics of the trans and t-case and post an update soon.

Awesome swap. Thanks for sharing all the pics. Definitely looks like you did your homework for getting all the right parts.

Can't wait to see the finished product. You should take a video of the first start up!
