Exhaust Leak

Howdy All,
So I have an exhaust leak.
A few weeks ago I tore out my exhaust and up pipes, everything. Looking at the y-pipe and everything else, I found the exhaust leak to be coming from where the down-pipe meets the turbo.

The turbo is in great condition except for the mating surface of the down-pipe it is heavily pitted. I thought I ground it down smooth, but my leak persists.

My question is: does anyone know of anything that I can use as a sealant or a gasket to put there?
The highest temp RTV i can find is 600 F. there are some exhaust tapes I've found, but they say they make a permanent bond (and we all know the turbo can come off quite a bit).

Any ideas are greatly appreciated!

Don't bother with any pastes or tapes, just asking for a smokey mess. Best to get a new up-pipe, grinding the pitting off is going to make it so it needs more of a push to mate the turbo surface with the up-pipe it might just not seat well anymore

Should be able to pick up a downpipe for under $100.

Thanks guys for your replys, however, sorry I wasn't clear. The downpipe, up-pipe & y-pipe are fine. The problem area is on the turbo flange where it meets the downpipe.
I just can't see buying a turbo when the rest of it is in great condition.

Welcome to the wonderful world of the 6.0. International didn't sue ford for the fun of it. Any type of tape or sealant will burn right off and could pose a fire threat. And if you machine or grind the turbo surface flat the distance between the turbo and pipe will cause torque on the mounting surfaces, there is only one cure I know of. Replace the 6.0 with the 7.3 and you will ,be very happy! or replace your turbo, and while your in there get a egr delete kit. DAVE

I think I've got most of my bugs worked out now. This one remains. I do have an EGR delete already, that's why I know the up-pipe is good. =D

I agree, Chris, turds...

I like my 7.3, I add parts to make it better, not remove them, you know cats, egr coolers and egr valves, glue the vgt shut, replace icp's and connectors every couple years, and when the day comes when I have to pullover and pee into me urea tank I will go back to the 6.9 thank you very much. About $100 to braze the turbo and machine it smooth.

Shouldn't be difficult at all for a competent Fab shop.
