1990 F-350 7.5L dually. I cooked the original E4OD, overheated it due to a clogged up cooler, after shopping around, I went with a Ford reman unit due to the 3yr/100k warranty. I installed it yesterday and it starts off in second gear, shifts to third fine, will not go into overdrive. I re-used the old MLPS on the trans and have read on several different threads about the MLPS possibly being out of adjustment or faulty, or that it could be the connector to the solenoid pack on the right side of the transmission. I scanned it and I am getting codes 67,91,92,93,94. Just wanting to check and make sure its nothing to do with the truck (old mlps, or wiring) before I call the ford place and tell them I have trouble.

Wrong gear starts are typically the MLPS and you can adjust it in Neutral by lining up the ID mark on the sensor with the ID mark on the bushing......follow this with a diagnostic test on the MLP sensor signal input and signal return............read ohms as you manually move lever:
X2 ^^ danr1.
What you describe is how a transmission acts in LIMP mode.
It does sound like a connection problem between the computer and the transmission solenoid pack.
Was your old transmission doing the same thing?
67 DTR (MLPS) open circuit.
91 SS1 open or shorted circuit.
92 SS2 open or shorted circuit.
93 CCS open or shorted circuit.
94 TCC open or shorted circuit.
Note that the 67 can also be: The AC switch was on during the KOEO tests on some trucks.
Yes, all there error codes are KOEO. I am not sure what year model the pack is that's in the new transmission. The old transmission developed a really bad roaring noise, then lost second gear. I'm gonna try the MLPS adjustment, also gonna look at the pack connector really close, make sure none of the pins are damaged
On the pack plug if it plugged in it would be the right pack for your truck.
What you might find as I have found under the same problem was that all of the wires at the back of the plug were no longer connected to the plug.
You have to pull the back cover off the plug to see this however.
Update on the trans, sorry for the delay in a response. Installed the new connector, still has the same problem. Called the company that the unit came from and a warranty claim rep is calling shortly. I have power and ground to the pack. Wires check good from the connector the the PCM connector. The other trans was working fine minus second gear so it just about has to be in the solenoid pack. We shall see
Transmission is fixed!!! I talked with the warranty rep on the phone, told him what I had checked. They overnighted me a new solenoid pack, transmission works like a champ with the new pack in it. Thanks for all the input!!
