I have a leak...I have been trying to figure out how to down the truck long enough the replace the hpop b/c of rear seal leaking. Today i let it also get down to the low fuel light which is not uncommon either.
I made a turn and went over a train track and it started acting like driving on drunk bumps on the side of the interstate. It happened all of a sudden like a switch was turned. It was hammering and not hitting on all cylinders and would hardly go. No smoke no CEL. I unplugged icp and it changed slightly but was still bad.
Checked the oil 3 qts low but should not have been enough to make it act like that. I finally limped it to the station and put 10 gallons in it. It ran slightly better but it took about 2 miles and then the same switch flipped back and it ran fine.
I guess it sucked air. It never has done that before but I guess it can just come on all of a sudden like that.
Is there anything else anyone can think of? I immediately feared the worst with no CEL and the way it was acting. I figured an injector tip had come off the way it was running. Its all stock and I rarely even lay into it any more with 205k miles. I do tow various trailers but nothing more than 10k these days.
Nope she was out of fuel. Before I did the tank mods I would run out at a quarter tank. Well it might be been showing some on the gauge but below the duck bill which is where it sucks air.
With 10 fresh gallons in there, would it take 2 miles to clear the air from the fuel lines? I thought it would clear up faster. A good shake from the train tracks and sudden problems kinda sounds like chaffed wires under 42 pin harness, or loose UVCH, something electrical. I'd check the underside of the harness, then ohm the UVCH, look for burnt pins on the connector at the valve cover. A few inches of split heater hose protects the harness from chaffing on the VC.

I am with you on this one David. I think it's more likely a chaffed wire than low fuel.
