Sounds kind of silly. I did brake job for my other vehicle. But first time for this monster. Especially the rear with dully wheels. I'm sure I can figure out things slowly this weekend. A write up will definitely help. Thx. Erwin
Thx, Tug. That's one of the few I read few minutes ago. Thx anyway. I did figure out that it's just like the brake job on a smaller vehcle. It turned out that there is still more than 7mm pad there (new one is 10.5mm). I put them right back after inspecting all other details. There IS a problem though. The right side is normal, two 18mm bolts holds the caliper on. I took it apart, no problem. When I took the two left wheels off, I saw two threaded bolts sticking out where the two 18mm bolts are supposed to be, no idea how to take it apart. see picture. any suggestions?
If you replace pads only, it's the same. If you pop the rotor off, the job spirals into a "special" hell - where they send all the people who pulled the tags off of mattresses.

I don't see a problem, unless they won't loosen. Are you sure it's a stud and nut, or just a bolt with a stud made onto it? If it's a stud, shock the threaded bolt boss area of the caliper mount with a large punch and hammer, double nut the stud, and back it out.
You don't have a problem. That is a bolt with a stud off the top side as the rear caliper should have had a shield over it and the retaining nuts on that stud retain it.
