Coolant Filter Change

Good Morning All,

I installed a coolant filter about 5K miles ago but was wondering how often should I change the filter? I was planning to change it with each oil change which I do at about 7500 miles, running T6.

Any recommendations?

Jeff

This is what the Sinister set up says to do, not sure what folks here are actually doing...

"The coolant filter should be changed out several time within the first year of having the coolant filter kit installed. The first filter should be changed out within the first 500 miles as it will catch the most debris. The second filter should be changed out at about 3000 miles. The third filter should be changed out after the first year. The intervals may vary depending on the amount of debris in the engine. We recommend cutting open the filters to determine how many times and how often the filter should be changed in the first year. If the filter is still very dirty after the second interval, you may want to do an additional filter change in between the 3000 mile mark and the end of the year. After the initial year, you should change the filter out once every year after that."

Hope this helps!

Can you post pics of your setup? I would like to see where you tied in at.

Ok, guess I went way over what I should have. Guess I will be changing the filter today before I go on my trip.

The setup I used was as recommended by Sinister, I connected one to the heater hose off the engine and the return to the overflow tank on the left side of the engine. Placement of the filter bracket was on the right side of the fan shroud on the stud coming off the radiator support.

A common way to determine IF your coolant filter is clogged is to compare the difference in TEMP between the inlet and outlet lines of the coolant filter.

With nothing more than basic hand tools we were able to install the complete kit in the garage in less than one hour
Where's the fun in that??? What about pride in building your own kit and spending a bunch of time, fuel and money. Who could possibly want to be done with an install in less than ONE HOUR? I need to think about that one for a while...

Yeah, you need to use the air compressor for something and take at least 3 beer breaks while setting up or cleaning up..
