I assume it does, I cant remember its been so long, but I know that the pan hasn't been down since. And According to the web site it takes a stock FORD filter. Like I said I installed this thing in 07 or early 08. I just looked at the instructions and it said to use a stock FORD filter too...

Wonder how they get that extra capacity? Unless the fill level is so high the filter is still safely immersed (that must be it). You could run the '08 filter if that's the case. The '08 pan mainly has a wider spot for the filter and is just a tad deeper...
Ford never ran both filters. The early 80 had the external filter, but not the good internal filter. Later in the year the good internal filter went into production and the external was deleted.
Thanks for correcting me on that one. IIRC they did move the external filter back close to the transmission...
Mark, do you have an opinion on whether or not to run both filters or does it matter one way or the other. I'm running the 08+ filter/pan, but left the external filter in place for now.
And does it matter if we use the LV or SP fluid?
He answered this Q back when I did the thread on doing the conversion. You can run both, there won't be any pressure drop or anything like that. I'm running both, just because I had bought a couple front filters before deciding to do the upgrade, but once this last one goes I'm running just the internal filter.
Ditto on the LV/SP. I just replaced what came out of the old pan with LV in the new. I think SP is going away, the replacement is LV...

Ya, they said that 5 or 6 years ago and it, SP, is still here.

I think I may try the Modified Direct Clutch Solenoid while its apart, seems like a good upgrade while the fluid is out...worst case is I will need to drop the pan and put the old 1 back in.
Bump this back up to the top for an update. I finally got to doing my tranny service today and I was pleasantly surprised to see that there was nothing in the pan other than really clean red fluid. I had minimal filings on my magnet, and even in the toilet paper dispenser it was clean. The filter was dirty, but there wasn't much to speak of on the magnet.
I did install the modified direct clutch solenoid, relearned the trans, and so far the flare seems all but gone. I leave for vacation next week towing the 5er, so I will report back when I get to Ocean City, it will be just under 500 miles 1 way for me so it will be a good run.
I had about 20,000 miles on this fluid and Im happy that things went well, but Mark told me that was gonna be the case anyway.
So here is my update after about 1000 miles. The tranny seemed fine on the trip, no real issues to speak of. I did have a few times where the trans seemed to "bang" into second gear. I never really did the relearn procedure before I left for my trip, so I will do it again this weekend and drive the truck some.
So far all seems well, other that that banging I experienced I think 3 times, hopefully Mark you can chime in and give me a little guidance.
2 times when it happened, I was pulling my 5er in traffic and the truck was at the point where the rpms were a little high and it should have shifted, then I was giving a little more throttle and it seemed like in the middle of the shift I let my foot out of it for traffic.
The other time it did it it was kind of the same scenario without the trailer in tow, on the return trip home it didn't do it at all.
So that has me a little concerned as to maybe needing to dive into this tranny.
If you drove the truck the PCM relearned. All the relearn procedure does is cause it to learn faster.
When the RPMs were high and it should have shifted that can be an engine problem. If the engine isn't making the power it should you will move the go pedal further down. The transmission software sees the pedal further down and delays the shift. The engine isn't making enough power so everything seems strained and the shift feels late. Check for anthing that would cause low engine power before diving into the transmission.
The engine is defiantly not low on power that's for sure. The truck ran great to and from with no issues at all other than those 3 little tranny hiccups.
