I just got my '02 PSD back from the dealer for a auto transmission flush. Second gear was starting to stick a little so I figured it was time to have the fluid changed out (never been done) hoping it would help. My questions is: When the dealer performs a tranny flush, do they replace the filter? I noticed that the invoice doesn't mention a filter change or reference a part number used.
Second gear stills sticks, so I am thinking that the shift solenoid my be going bad. Hopefully I just didn't waste $150 on a fluid flush only to have drop the pan and replace the solenoid, filter, and fluid.
Only way to know is call and ask. Even then, they might just tell you "yes" to get you off the phone. Just my opinion. I'm more of a do it yourself to know its done right kind of guy. I've never been much at trusting the dealership.
I kind of figured that they just flushed it without dropping the pan. How hard is it to replace the shift solenoid and where do I find such an item (part number, supplier, etc)? Can I reuse the new fluid I just had put in?
i just had the trans serviced on my 02 today, and the paperwork from ford said they removed and replaced the filter, cleaned the pan, and refilled the trans with 14 quarts of trans fluid.
So, where is the shift solenoid? Can its failing cause the trans to stay stuck in 2nd gear all of a sudden. My perfect, never have a real problem with PSD will all of a sudden not shift above 2nd gear.
Ford does not recommend ever changing the filter in the trans, so they most likely did not change it. I was always under the impression that a power flush, be it trans or coolant, was better than an at home deal. I know you know what happened, but I hear they knock more gunk loose.
they replaced the filter, and cleaned the pan, cause they have had too many transmissions come back with problems due to not changing the filters.
especially when the vehicle has no service record.
Mine was doing the same thing and bad, wouldn't shift out of second at all. It was the valve body. It was all gummed up. Make sure you have a good tranny guy since my tranny underwent a $2k rebuild and still didn't fix the problem(was there twice!) Obviously they did a crap job. Another guy diagnosed it in a couple minuites and fixed it in a few hours for $300. If you don't know one, ask around.

So did you get it fixed? Nobody ever posts back afterwards lol
I just had my dealer flush my tranny and change the filter, 250 dollars !! I hope it was worth it. It showed they refilled it with 24 qts? Or was that a typo? suppose to be 14?
