I have new rebuilt 351w in my '81 bronco. I have my egr vacuum t'ed into the distibutor advanced timing vacuum. I have my pcv vacuum going straight into the intake and the brake booster vacuum going into the back of the carb. my engine lacks power going up hills and is running I believe a little too lean. I am getting about 11 miles per gallon(I was told I could get about 15). I am running at about 4500 feet above sea level. I have a 1405 edelbrock carb with .98 jet for prim. with 73x52 rods. 95 jets for secondary. I am wondering if I should take out my egr vacuum (plug it off) and change the rods to 70x52 and go from there. Any help would be appreciated also I have a edelbrock performer intake.. Thanks
I am not sure about it, But I always run my brake booster off of intake vaccuum( intake vaccum is thought of as constant vaccum. ) My distribitor off of carb (that vaccum needs to vary with the engine or carb vaccum.) There should also be a spot on your carb for the pcv (because you want to reburn these fumes not apply vaccum to them. )
Ok you don't want to T them. The Brake should go into like he back of the intake. Then you PCV should be a large port on the front of carb (edelbrock carb) and dist should be a small port on fron of carb. I am pretty sure the location for the pcv and dist are right but i am not looking at my carb. But the brake defenatley goes to the intake.
The Brake Booster goes directly to the manifold. There is a threaded hole right behind the Carb that you can use for this and any other accessory vacuum needs.
The PCV Valve can go the either the large front or back port on the Preformer Carb. I used the back port and connected it to the PCV Valve on the passenger side valve cover, since it keeps the plumbing cleaner.
The EGR Valve should go to a temperature sensing switch threaded into the front of the manifold right next to the thermostat. The other side of this switch goes to the small port on the Carb - Passenger Side Port.
If you have a vacuum advance this goes to the other small port on the front of the Carb - Drivers side port.
thank you guys. I will switch them and check it out. I have the egr going to a temp swtich right now next to the themostat and T'd into the advanced port (passenger Side) with the distributor. that is my advance timing port on my carb the other port is full vacuum. hopefully this will fix my eratic idle and give me better gas mileage. do you guys think that if I installed a k&n air filter that I would have to rejet my carb?
