I have a 1995 F-150 with 5.0 (302) AODE 2WD. It has been having this strange starting problem for about 2 years now. I have posted reguarding it before. If the truck sits all night and it is cool in the morning it will start right up. It can sit for over a day and if it is hot outside it will not want to start. If you drive anywhere and don't start it right back up it doesn't want to start. It will crank for a long time and then finally fire up and bog down blowing out black smoke. I know thats excess gas. I have had it to about 3 shops including the local Ford dealer, and no one can find anything wrong with it. I have spent about 500 + dollars myself trying to fix it. A good friend of mine recently got a snap on diagnostic scanner. Here are the codes it came up with.
1. 552 Air Management CKT Problem
2. 212 No Tach Input to Processor / SPOUT
3. 542 Fuel Pump Circuit Open ECA to GND
4. 311 Thermal Air System not working Bank 1
It runs so good I can't imagine something serious being wrong with it. I hope this is something small. Can someone please tell me if any of these could be my problem? If so what should I do to repair it? Any advice or input is greatly appreciated.
Sounds like an ignition problem, I once heard of a similar problem that happened to a mustang, I don’t remember what the actual part that did it but it was in the distributor. Take a trip to the junk yard and pull out a distributor, try that see if your problem still exists, or you could just buy a new OEM or aftermarket one.
Either that or the ICM.
