OH DARN,mini vent!

Like a lot of you, I have been saving all receipts for my truck over the last 12 or so years. Like the true dummy that I am, I just had them in a cardboard box, on the lower shelf of my work bench , instead of putting them in the file cabinet 12 feet away. OK, I was looking for the tire inflator, when low and behold I found that the HB parts washer (my Mother had got me for Christmas) had cracked, leaking all it's contents (Purple Power) right into my receipt box. What can ya do? its my fault and, The only reason's for keeping them was #1- to give to any possible future owner, and #2- to eventually add em up to see what I actually spent. The last time I checked I had spent around $14k, and that was after I painted it 3 years ago. That's it Ill just have to live without em. In closing, I would like to commend those of you who have the self discipline to keep a ledger on your projects, it's obviously just not me, right. LOL

Me either Jim. I started 6 years ago keeping a spreadsheet with part numbers and prices. But then the build slowed down and I just stopped putting the info down as I bought stuff and now I have receipts laying all over the house and shop.

Jim, live in the moment and forget about keeping track of what you spent. You spent what you did to make the truck you have, so that is all you really need. I also have a cardboard box with my receipts, but I doubt that I will ever even look at them and spilling something on them won't really be a big deal to me. If I were building it for someone else then I would of course keep close track and charge accordingly.

Jim, I would not worry about the receipts, whats gone is just gone. If you ever decide to sell the truck the new buyer will probably just get excited about the truck and the receipts won't matter and do you really want to know how much you spent, just have fun.

Yeah in the big scheme of things its not even worth a mention, I just had a moment, silly actually, but I'm over it. Heah like Charlie said, I have a free truck. Today is all we have, tomorrow is not guaranteed, so we all need to enjoy each moment. Thanks for the smiles guys, have a great evening.

You're probably better off not knowing-at least that's my philosophy.

I guess the only ones I keep are tax deductible. Then again I'm only into my truck about 550 bucks. S'pose I have a long way to go to catch up.

I was keeping a log on what I was spending to build HOMADE, finally added things up about half way through the build and figured I should burn everything before Linda happened to see them and get out a calculator, I am a happy man and still breathing, Garry

If you paid by credit card you can find your expenditures in your monthly statements. Some Banks and credit cards even let you go through the online expenditures and assign categories (example: "1950 Ford F2"). It will then let you run a report by that category which adds everything up for you automatically.

Then you don't need to save the receipts.
