1953 was Ford Motor Company's 50th anniversary.

Mercury trucks were built and sold in Canada, as well as exported to several other countries, between 1946-1968. It was a way for Ford to sell more trucks in Canada through Mercury dealers, since not every town had a Ford dealer. Dodge had a similar program selling Fargo trucks with Chrysler dealers. They're essentially the same truck, just rebadged.

Anyone know how to boost/jumpstart from 12v to the 6v.
The battery is dead and my battery charger wont charge a 6v battery.
The guy where I got it boosted it but if I remember right the polarity between 6v and 12v is opposite?

I think all the Mercs had a maple leaf in the center instead of the Ford crest.

239 cu in or possibly 255 if a merc engine. Positive to positive, negative to nagative, start it up and pull the jumpers quite soon, so you don't have 12 volts to coil, gauges etc for too long. Awesome truck, trailer and babe! You're a lucky man.

GB is right. Just jump it like you do modern cars. I have done it may times with my 6 volt 54 F100 and I started 12 cars with my truck.... but as GB says remove the cables quickly.

I bought a new battery for it and it fires right up.

The engine code is not in the vin. But all of them came with the standard 239 flathead v8.

This is the correct horn button for a 53 mercury. If it's original it could be the 255 inch merc motor. You have to pull the pan and look at the crank find out for sure.Oops an extra picture...

There should be a bean shaped mark on one end of crank and counter weights are bigger on the merc 4 inch crank.

The registration says "Mercury".
Someone maybe changed the steering wheel?
Any other ways to tell about the engine?
