Just bought this 53 , it runs good and has title/papers which is getting rarer on these old trucks.
Could insure it and drive it tomorrow.

The painted front bumper: C4TZ-17757-C is from a 1964/77 F100/350.

There was also a chrome version (C4TZ-17757-D).

I wonder if it was a flareside pickup originally because of the single rear wheels. Is there a big old spacer built into the hub behind the rear wheels? If the front and rear track width is about the same, I'm thinking pickup. The stakebeds had less than 48" between the rear wheels. Do the running boards appear cut off? That front bumper looks like '59-'60. This makes me miss my '53 f350. I was born in '53 and I bought it when I was 53. It later became a casualty of the recent 'great recession', especially in the building trades.

 

I was also born in 53 Gary.

It has dual wheels , just took one off so it would fit on car trailer.

Im going to look for a dually loggers box for it I think.
I wish it were single rear wheels.......................

 

As we eased out of the recession, I wanted to re-create my old f350 pickup. I had bought a 9' bed that was a utility trailer. Then I bought a '59 f350 dually stakebed to mount this bed on. To center the rear wheels in the fenders I installed a rear axle from a '92 ford dually pickup. These are wider than a cab/chassis axle. I just deleted the outer duals and that setup will fit any single wheel bed setup. With the full floater hubs sticking out it looks like a powerwagon, military jeep m715 etc. The axle is higher geared, maybe 4:11. Of course the 60" cab to axle dimension means an extra long bed. I have seen a lot of loggers beds in BC. They just plain don't exist here in the states. I'm sure some have built them, but I've never seen one down here. They are really cool.

 

I had to Google "logger pick up beds" as I had never heard of it. And I have been in and around logging my whole life.
I have seen that bed up here but it was many years ago on both a slick
and a dent. At first I thought it was a factory box the outer fenders had
for some reason been removed. But a closer look proved that wrong.

A Merc, a flatty and a dually, the perfect truck.

 

I finally hauled it home tonight , it runs so smooth and quiet you cant tell its running.
But it ran out of gas half way onto the trailer , had to comealong it the rest of the way.

Back rims and tires are 16" and they guy told nme where there were 2 more 16" rims for the front.

I don't know whats up with the 50th anniversary on the steering wheel?(horn still works)

So anyway heres a few pictures.

The guy told me what size engine but I forgot already? 354?

 

Never seen one of them trucks down this way before. What's the story on the Mercury? Were they an anniversary edition?
