I was at the beginning of another project when I found this on CL. The PO bought this from a PPO who had done the conversion. The PO thought the chassis was from a "highboy" but didn't know much about it. Pics don't show but front is closed knuckle w drums, I didn't count the front leaves but the rear springs have 13 leaves. frame has been shortened and rear spring mounts relocated. I like tall trucks, but this is a bit too much so am starting to look for different springs etc. Anyway would be helpful if any of you could get me started in the right direction in identifying this chassis, Is there an ID# somewhere? Thanks
The VIN will tell you what year and model the truck's chassis is.
There are two stamped on the frame. The visible VIN is in the engine compartment on the top right (passenger) side frame rail. I can be anywhere between the firewall and radiator support but is most commonly found about inline with the alternator.
The second, hidden VIN is also on the top right frame rail usually about 8"-12" behind the front cab mount.
I see the dreaded low pinion front axle, anyway....you want to lower it, unstack the rear leaf pack down to 9, same for the front. Stock 73-77 HB has 6 front leafs, 78/79 has 2.
The thing to do IMO is ditch the divorced xfer case and go with a married that way your rear d/s is not so angled. And a 78/79 running gear will get you a high pinion D44 front axle with disk brakes.
Just an observation and question from someone who has never owned a Highboy.....
What's the story on the rear leaf springs? The forward side of the stack looks as if some ends are cut off while some are tapered/contoured. Then one ends as the same point as the spring below it. Is that typical?

Looks like a home made lift kit made by stacking way to many leafs together. The cut off and or squared end ones are add-a-leaf leafs or just straps of steel stock, I'd guess. And not typical IMO.
GeeeMCeee to fix the front pinion angle, I'd remove some of those added in leafs and you might have to get some shims. Ck with Skyjacker I know they sell them for there F250 6" lift for the rear.
