03 Hot no start

Ok--so my buddy with the 03 has sold his truck and I'm gonna get it fixed for him. When I tested the truck for the other friend it tested fine but with one hickup which was a low pressure on crank (380psi) But was just once.. Now the truck is no start hot everytime it is driven now. I tried to get him to unplug the ipr but he couldn't find it--he's not good at fixing things I plan on testing the IPR first then do HPOP air test. I'm hoping for IPR or dummy plugs and stand pipes. Any other suggestions on where to start? Oh--I will be validating again some numbers with my scangauge. Thanks in advance

Mike

No dummy plugs and these standpipes (which are VERY different) very seldom leak. ICP is under/behind the turbo. Probably looking at an HPOP.

I gotcha--was wondering about that. Should be easier then. Was hoping for him its not hpop but it more than likely is. Now the icp it the big one that has the plunger and the ipr is the shorter squat one? I think I have them switched in my mind

Gonna start the work today. Want to see if I have my ducks in a row. First check icp koeo ipr when starting. Drive to get up to temp so it wont start hot then check icp and ipr while trying to start. Next unplug icp or ipr (cant remember which) if it starts its bad. If not move to air test. Am I in the right direction?

then Drive it WOT see if IPR% Shoots High and ICP goes Down

If ICP don't fall off till somewhat higher pressure an air test is Pointless

It's unplug the ICP for a no-start.

Doubt that's the issue, most likely is HPOP or HPO discharge tube.

yep--hope just the discharge tube. Finally was able to get on my computer today--and figured out unplug icp and inform myself a bit more. How the heck do you get to it to unplug the dern thing? This 03 isn't fun. Also for doing the air test--where do you plug in on the 03? Do you have to tear down to the hpop and plug into icp or is there an easier port?

Remove either valve cover and air check at the port on the HPO rail.

thank goodness

On the air test can you tell if it's the discharge tube or HPOP? Once you get down to the HPOP what is the best way to tell it's bad? Hate to just change some orings, put it back together and find out it needed HPOP. I know he doesn't want to replace HPOP but If it's bad I am going to make him and I want to be sure.

This meaning it is definitely a HPOP leak?

Not really anything wrong with those numbers. Pump pressure looks good. I'd pull the IPR and check the screen before I pulled the pump, even though that number looks decent too. What kind of oil is he running and does it have a factory cap?
