VIN question

I'm looking at a '60 that is a 4x4. Would the vin need to start with F11 for it to have been a factory 4x4? The vin for this truck is F10J0K44523.

That VIN breaks down as a 1960 F100 2WD with a 223 inline 6 cylinder. You are correct that a four wheel drive would start with F11.... Jim

Incorrect! The first 3 digits of the VIN is the SERIES code. 1960: F10 decodes to both F100 2WD & 4WD / There is no VIN SERIES code of F11 for 1960.

The 4 digit MODEL code stamped on the Rating Plate decodes to whether it's 2WD or 4WD

1960 MODEL code examples: F100 = F100 2WD, 5,000 lbs. GVWR / F101 = F100 2WD, 4,000 lbs. GVWR / F102 = F100 2WD, 5,000 lbs. GVWR

F103 = F100 4WD, 5,600 lbs. GVWR / F104 = F100 4WD, 4,000 lbs. GVWR / F105 = F100 4WD, 5,600 lbs. GVWR

F110 = 1957/59 F100 2WD / 1961/72 F100 4WD / 1973/76 F100 4WD pickup. 1976 was the last year that F100's were available with 4WD

Well Bill I guess I stand corrected. I suggest that you contact LMC Truck and inform them about this information. I used their catalog to decode this VIN. I am not an expert but I can read printed material. I have no control over misinformation of the printed material. Jim
