injector replacement

A report from a diesel shop says that the #3 injector is bad, and 5 and 7 are low.

they recommend replace #3 and try hot shot secret to boost up the two that are low.

The truck has a surging problem, im hoping the injectors are the cause, and replacing them is the cure..

Is this a good course of action? or should i replace all 3? what else should i do while i'm doing injector(s) i read about dummy plugs and stand pipes and sct fittings... the truck is a 2007, i dont know what applies to that year?

What did they use to prove that the injectors are the problem?

Is it surging hot?

I agree with Sean, it depends what they used to pinpoint the injectors, as Ford IDS tells quite a bit abot what is going on, from cold start to warm-up to operating temps, each injector can behave differently for each scenario.

If #3 is truly dead (and it's the injector and not a compression issue) I would replace #3 and polish the spools on #1, 5 and 7. Leave the driver's side bank alone IMHO.

It would be good to verify fuel pressure as well.

Josh I think he should have a look at what I am dealing with.

Have a look at this link. This link starts at post #31 in the thread.

I would read the full thread from post #1. But if you look at the IDS info I posted you
can see how different problems show at different temps.

You may also want to try the Archoil your self once you deal with that one injector.

But it all depends on how they came up with the info and what your willing to try
or not try to fix the problems.

They used the same looking test. they said they turned off the "compensator" and had the results i posted.

Where can i find info on polishing spools?

and yes the truck surges when hot, the hotter the downloaded tune, the more drastic the surge.

hard cold start -everymorning.

Try this link.

I found it be doing a search for "Spool Valves" Could not think of the right title for the
thread and got lucky with that one in the search box. The Search Box is your friend!

Wow, that looks like a lot of small parts.. i'm not so good with small parts!

so a "dead injector" could be gummed up spool valves?

Would gummed up spool valves be causing the surging at operating temp?

My opinion is when an injector shows an issue at operating temps it's likely the fuel side or coils that is the problem.

The spools rear their ugly head on cold start and low temps.

So it seems to me you have 2 issues. One or more injectors are failing cold and 1 or more failing hot.

I dont believe in snake oil but I had some injectors that were not in good shape and instead of Hot shot I used Archoil Look through some of the threads here. That is some dang good stuff. BTW I have yet to replace them and it starts and runs like butter now..

I'd try the Hot Shot before you tear it all down, the best part about it is they have a money back guarantee if it doesn't clean up your injectors.
