I mailed some 10x16.5 alum spokes from Mo to KY for $40 a rim. U-haul had some boxes that fit the diameter perfect, just had to shorten the box height a bit and used the left over cut off cardboard to pad the inside of the box.
I sure do like the turbines, but I have a set of old school slots on my 1979 F250 4x4. I bought all 4 at a local flea market for $100.00. They are 16.5” but I also just got 4 brand new Firestone Transforces in 9.50 x 16.5 through a local garage. I will get a couple of pictures tomorrow and post them for you guys to drool over!!
I appreciate you guys looking out for me!! I'm keeping my eye out for them as well in my local area. I don't have much of a budget, so I'm being picky on what I can find. I will wait until I fight the right size at the right price. I just put a new set of tires on the ol' stock wheels this past weekend. That way, I can at least move my ol' truck around and be able to take my time on the wheels I want.
Keep your eyes peeled and use Craigslist heavily! Since we've been talking about this more it's been making me want to get a set that fits without an axle swap... and I just hit the lottery today. Picked up a set of 4 for $100... couldn't believe it when he told me the price! Told him I'd be there in 20mins this morning when he called back.
Also pay attention because 15 and 18 spoke turbines are different. I can't say for certain about 16spokes but Rich sold a set of 16 spikes to a Chevy guy so there's that.
Edit* pics in my build thread for comparison between 16 spokes and 18 spokes
Now after typing spokes so many times I wonder if I should be calling them fins lol
Fins, Hurricanes, cyclones...Cool no matter the name.
FYI FTE members since I did not know that the rims I sold Erik would not fit/he would have front axle clearance issues on his earlier 74-77 (?) 8 lug CLOSED KNUCKLE D44 front axle, I am working the logistics to buy them back.
He will post up the fin count, (since it seems to really matter as far as what fits what) so not one else gets it wrong like we did.
I do think they will fit a 78/79 D44. Bet your chrome lug wrench when I get them back I am going to test fit them on my trucks.
I now regret selling these aluminium spokes a long time ago. That pic is NOT my rim but is what the rims I sold looks like.

I don't get why they won't fit on a low pinion d44 with drum brakes. Here's my dads 69 F250 many years ago with the same set that later ended up on his 78.

Yours has like 20ish? Fins... hard to tell from pic but it's more than 16 or 18. Anyway the 16spoke rims have a different backspacing than the 18 spoke rims and that is enough to hit on the steering knuckle. I'll get some pics posted tomorrow but you can check out my build thread, the latest post is the side by side comparisons and a few pages back is me mounting the 16spokes and not fitting
