The club steering wheel lock.
I saw a knockoff at walmart
The major problem with the club is that you can easily cut the steering wheel and get it off. But in the end any theft measure is beatable. It's all about deterrent. Thieves always look for easy prey, and an IDI would be stolen for different reasons than an expensive new car. Punk joy riders are not as determined as professional chop shop car thieves.
Yeah. Really, it's not /worth/ stealing.
If you're doing it just for a short time, the VSS wire's plenty.
For a longer time, I'd just pull the batteries -- some crack head might try to sell them... and you can keep them charged while you're gone.
Alternately, if you pulled the steering wheel, /nobody/ would even attempt to steal it. Even if you left the wheel there on the seat.
Plus, I mean... who is really going to attempt to steal it? It's not a fun vehicle to play with(especially if stick), it's not worth enough to steal professionally.
Thanks guys, keep the suggestions coming. They are getting more useful with each post.
Pulling the fuel solenoid shut off wire is what I was looking for. That should stop the average punk that would try jumping the starter solenoid. The steering wheel lock is broke so if you get started without the key you could just drive off.
What do you mean more useful, most people are terrified by snakes and if they like snakes badgers aren't cuddly
you can break the wheel lock by hand, I've done it on many demo cars that the people have lost the keys.
You can't stop a truly determined thief, To make your self feel better you could pull the starter and driveline so it can't be driven, and take the tires off so it is harder to drag off.
Last tie an angry badger to it to make anyone trying to strip it down on the spot think twice.
Thanks guys, this has been entertaining. I should clarify, the property is in 70 miles from the nearest city and 5 miles from the nearest town. it is a mile and a half down a dirt dead end road across two cattle guards and 2 pasture gates. We have never had anyone get lost and end up there. You pretty much have to know how to get there.
The FSS and maybe leaving the tank selector on an empty tank should do until we get a barn built next year.
Keep the suggestions coming. I am liking this post.
there is a guy I know that lives by a reservoir and people fallowing there gps that couldn't judge the difference between 1/2 mile and 1/4, would drive through his yard at all hours of the day, so he found some warring UFO landing site signs. Now nobody drives into his yard.
I live in the country too and think that random gunfire all hours of the night is a good deterrrent
And a manual, no less. I always thought of a manual tranny as a built-in theft deterrent, since the average thief is like the average non-thief, i.e. most likely can't drive stick, and the demand for "steal-to-order" vehicles would be lower.
Awesome, I used to do the same thing when I lived on some decent property. Random gun fire during the day or night, and having your friends come over and empty hundred rounds drums also helps

Could always just leave a bunch of shotgun shells scattered around the truck too
