We will be leaving 94 7.3 at our property in the country. We have never had anything come up missing but to be safe I would like to have some type of theft deterrent.
What is the best option to keep the truck in the same place while we are in town?
If it is cold where are you are leaving it pull power wire to the glow plug relay.. Or disconnect your fuel shut off solenoid wire and tuck it behind your air cleaner housing.. Without those two things good luck starting it
Make it ugly, like I tell every one nobody steals an ugly truck or woman,
pull the trip wire off the relay on the fender or starter, unhook the shift linkage to an auto or take the stick off a 5speed
let the air out of the tires. put thumb tacks under the seat cover. Also a rattle snake or badger is a good deterrent.
Thanks guys, keep the suggestions coming. They are getting more useful with each post.
Pulling the fuel solenoid shut off wire is what I was looking for. That should stop the average punk that would try jumping the starter solenoid. The steering wheel lock is broke so if you get started without the key you could just drive off.
Disconnecting stuff is great, but if the thief knows anything about the truck he can just hook it back up. It is better to ~remove as many small vital parts as practical. Take the whole engine wire harness out, or at least take the GP and starter relays... and battery. The gear shifter / shift linkage is a good idea. You could also cap off the fuel return line. Ultimately all of these are just deterrents that will slow someone down, but if you implement more than one a prospective thief will probably give up and target something easier.
Removing the license plates is also a good idea, it will draw attention to it if they do get it on the highway...
