I just recently purchased a 1994 Eddie Bauer 4x4. The other day I got pulled over for my tail lights being out. From the beginning all my instrument lights have not worked either. The fuse for it was broken when I checked so I replaced it. Only minutes later it sparked and broke again. Now no matter what the size of fuse it will blowout in seconds. I'm not a mechanic but will try anything to not have to take it in for expensive repairs. Suggestions?
Take the lense cover off of your third light (on the shell) and check for blown bulbs (just happened to be where my problem was ). Actually check all of your lights for blown bulbs. Easy enough to get new ones at any parts store.
If/when all bulbs are good, start checking grounds. Get a multimeter if you don't have one (cheap digital ones are like $30 or so) and check ground at each bulb plug. Don't need power on to check grounds, but you should have the bulb(s) out.
If all grounds at the plugs are good check the ground at the headlight switch. Make sure you check the switch in all 3 positions (off, park, headlight).
