1994 f150 xlt .I have bright lights but no dim lights. I have daytime running light but they don't work either. I checked the fuses under the dash(all good). I checked the 40 amp fuse under the hood(its good). according to my drivers manual none of the relays look like they have anything to do with the head lights. the only fuse that was burned out was fuse 18(trailer battery charge) I put in a new one didn't help. I have dash lights and park lights and brights just no dims, any help where to check next would be greatly appreciated. thanks
there is power at the headlight connection for the dim lights, with close inspection it looks like both bulbs have the low beam element melted out. I know they worked this morning. could a power surge fry them, or would the fuse fry first? grabbed new bulbs, but have a feeling my problem ain't over. I don't want to put them in without alittle more research

Sure, a faulty voltage regulator could do that. What was the voltage reading on your meter when you checked for power? Or did you use a test light?
Start the truck up and check the voltage at the plugs then.
Now that you know what happened you can figure out why use a multi meter to check voltage at same connectors both engine off and running
how old are the bulbs it's not common for them to go out at the same time but could happen considering all other lights still work
thanks for the replys. the bulbs are old I've had the truck for 11 yrs and I haven't ever changed one. I don't have a voltage meter I used a test light. One thing I did notice(not sure if it's related) Is the fuse for the trailer battery charge was burned out, so I was wondering if it shorted out for some reason and effected the head lights. I left the burned out fuse in there for the trailer battery charge( cause I don't tow anyway) and put in the new bulbs.I drove around tonight and they seem fine so far. Time will tell.
