So the truck is now all painted. The shifter collars are in and the turn signals and horn have been verified to work and work correctly. The truck is ready to take out on the road once again if it would only start. Hold the neutral safety rod in place, turn the key and dead silence. Nothing, nada, nowhere, no how and no matter what I do in the cab
After cleaning the switch up with electrical cleaner I put it back in wihtout the wires. Didn't start so I stopped and did some work around the vent on the driver's side. With those two wires dangling besides my head, and noting they both take a male spade, I did make up a small jumper wire to plug in. Bam, started right away. So I guess our trucks won't start even if the switch is simply disconnected. After running it I thought this would be a great kill switch. Remove my little 4" jumper, put the wires back in place, and no one would be able to start the truck unless they were a really great mechanic on the fly.
The NSS makes continuity for the starter relay. If you leave the jumper in place it will start the truck in any position. Not a good situation as you go over the bank and in to the creek.
Garbz, When you are the trucks only driver and are aware, it aint too bad. Everything I own is automatic, so it goes in park when stopped, is started in park. It really isn't an issue.
It is about like the argument of having loaded guns and kids in the house. You deal with it.

That would be a thought although I am the only driver. Maybe one day I'll get the hang of holding the NSS in just the right position to start the truck every time. Yet since I haven't located that sweet spot and the metal lever on the shaft is broken then bypass one must.

The end of this lever has a knife blade end that pokes into the NSS. It's notorious for snapping off! / Applications: 1965/77 F100/350.

Bill, I know about the part being available from a previous post by you on the subject. The problem is that since the metal snapped off from the shaft a new lever would need to be welded(?) onto the shaft from what I see and the shaft isn't coming out in my life.
