Bad news, discovered the fittings in the carb where the brass connection goes that the fuel filter screws into ar slightly stripped. (got to love previous owners). Temporary fix is epoxy. Assuming I will have to get a whole new carb???
If there is enough metal around the hole, you could helicoil it, or tap it out for an oversize fitting.
Ahhh, the choke plate still works perfectly via the thermostatic spring, even without the hot air portion. Ask me.....31 years experience!!
I suppose the choke will open without direct heat from the choke tube...eventually. But certainly not "perfectly." It will work a LOT quicker if the heat were routed directly to the spring, as intended. And even quicker still with the electric assist choke cap. Without a source for the hot air to directly heat up the thermostatic spring in the choke cap, the engine will run on a richer mixture for a much longer period of time, wasting gas and causing unnecessary engine wear.
i have a 1984 f-150 with a 4.9 300 6cyl choke pull-off wasnt working after engine got hot it would bog down when accelarating or wouldnt crank so i bought a new one i want to make sure all vaccum hoses are in proper place can someone please help
