2004 egr question

2004 egr question

i cleaned the egr today. didnt seem to be to gunked up but cleaned it up real good put it back in... drove about 2 miles and the truck went into limp mode twice. i pulled over put the truck in neutral and stepped on the gas pedal grayish black smoke rolled out twice..question is, is that normal maybe the egr was clogged up and could that just be the soot burning off..thanks john

What did you clean the valve with?

Used some carb cleaner wiped it down and made sure it was dry

Did you get a cel when it went into limp mode?.

I dont think what you are describing is limp mode. Does it feel like its a gas motor flooding out? If so that is what my truck did when I first got it and cleaning didnt help. I replaced the egr valve and that fixed the problem

No lights came on at all

been talking to some of my diesel friends...how many people on here just unplug the egr..was told it would actually be better for the turbo and gain some mileage...
