now the question is should I still clean it? It runs smoother that is for sure..but do I still need to clean it out...if so in the tech folder it says something about a gasket...Im assuming there is one under the valve?
Thanks

there are 2 orings and a soft metallic gasket on the egr valve. just because you unplugged it, does not mean you will never have any issues. if you drive your truck correctly and run a additive if your fuel sucks, then you should be ok. if the egr does start malfunctioning, power loss and smoke will be the first signs even when unplugged.
What is the advantage of unplugging the EGR? I keep hearing about this from time to time, what's the deal??
Scottman,
Check out the tech folder in the beginig of the 6.0 section, it has awesome threads w/ great details on this subject. But in a nutshell, by introducing spent(diesel) exhaust gasses back into the motor w/o oxygen, it produces soot. The soot clings to things and clogs things up and all of that soot goes through the sensitive turbo. After all the trouble I've had with the EGR I'll never plug mine in again.
I have a 2005 and I just unpluged mine today. I have driven 150 miles today and the light has not come on as of yet. So I would guess as hard as I drive her its not going to.
I thought on '05 and up the light would come on on all trucks, it usually takes thre starts befvore it shows up, atleast it did on my '05, then the truck went into limp mode and had half the boost. I think it sayas under the hood on the placard if it complies with ca emmissions.
Disconnecting the EGR on my 2005 (had to upgrade to a 2006 after an accident) did NOT cause the light to come on. On my 2006 truck, it does come on. The Invoice lists "50 State Emissions" as a provided package which is what causes the light to come on. I assume it is what is required to be "California compliant".
