Hi guys on my 93 F150 5.0L I have a ping/rattle under heavy acceleration/higher rpms. I don't hear it under regular driving conditions and am getting 18-19mpg on the highway.
I have adjusted my timing back down to 10 degrees/btdc (from 12 degrees) this made no difference nor did running octane booster in my gas.
I read that this sound may indicate a lean condition but maybe it is just the high mileage on the engine (320,000 kilometers)
I pulled a plug (#5) and it looks alright to me but I thought I would ask the experts in case I am missing something.
The mods to the engine are
BBK shorty headers
Magnaflow Y-Pipe with high flow cats (installed less than 5,000 kilometers ago)
New wires, plugs, cap, rotor
K&N Filter (not a drop in, more of a homemade warm air intake)
Rebuilt the fuel injectors
EGR & smog all function properly
