I have some 6AWG welding cable that I need to run from the battery to a power inverter under the passenger seat. The cable is about 1/2" diameter and pretty flexible. Does anybody know of a good place I can get through/around the firewall and into the cab on the passenger side?
Just a thought, DC power drops a lot of voltage and is generally inefficient over distance; AC is much better over longer wiring. You might want to put your inverter in the engine area. Also inverters get warm and it is already very warm under the seats due to the tranny.
Just did exactly the same thing over the weekend. If you look in the front passenger footwell, just above the top edge of the carpet, towards the kick panel on the right, you'll see a small oval black rubber plug. That'll get you into the engine compartment. I poked a hole in it with an awl and puched the wire through. It pushes through real easy so grab it with some long needle nose or the like before wailing on it. The rubber is real 'grippy' - I didn't see a need for any kind of sealant. I also ran the sensor wire for my indoor/outdoor thermometer through there. Real piece of cake.
I was going to say the same thing that mcodrum said about it in the above. If you need a pic, I have one of the hole in my "heater core shut off valve" in my gallery area.
