My 400 build

Well, I got my 400 out of the truck and disassembled. The bearings are totally shot, lots of copper showing, pitting, and pretty deep grooves. I'm concerned about the crank grind. I think I know where the cause was: #8 piston skirt was galled to the max + big groove of material gone and stuck on cylinder wall. Causes and rebuild concerns? I plan to bore block .030. My guess is the usual oil starved 5th journal. Thanks.

" My guess is the usual oil starved 5th journal " Don't know where you heard of such a thing but there is nothing usual about #5 starving for oil. I can tell you that the blocks main bores are more than likely out of alignment and roundness so plan on getting it align bored or align honed. Get a set of TMI's pistons. They will be within reach of getting the pistons to a zero deck height with minimal decking, get the rods resized with a good set of bolts, plan on balancing it too. Get a good set of mics and a bore gauge reading in .0001" and set the bearing clearances with them and then you will have a bullit proof botom end.

Thanks Mark and we are thinking alike. I have a very good machine shop nearby that will do a fine job. I also plan to do the oil mods and to get Tim's build kit. I'll try to get some pictures posted soon.
