400 build up questions

im in the procces of building a 400 out of a 351m. and i have a few questions.

1. would a crank from oriellys or some where like that be a ideal crank to put in a motor thats going to push 350hp

2. will these pistons http://www.tmeyerinc.com/cart400pistons.htm (the flat tops) work with the stock rods and should i get the pistons before i take the block to the machine shop

3. can i get a healthy block and bottom end for 600$. by healthy i mean flatops, reconditioned rods w/ arp bolts, and the block .030 over. and good main and rod bearings

The machinist should see the block first to tell you what bore he has to go to so you can order the pistons accordingly. Then he will need the pistons, or at least one of them to properly do his bore. As far as the crank goes there are differing opinions. Most honest parts houses will tell you it's a crap shoot getting a reman. You don't know where it's been after all The reconditioners may also do some repairs to a crank whish may not be optimal for a perfomance engine, let alone a stock one If yours isn't junk you are probably better off getting a local reputable machine shop to recon yours. Then you know what you got. If you buy a reman you should probably get it checked any how. You can't do a bottom end right for $600. Make yourself a parts list of all you'll need and then check prices and get a quote from the machine shop. Crank and bearings, cam and bearings plus the right spring kit and lifters, rod bearings and bolts, hv oil pump and shaft, roller tining chain, pistons and rings, gasket set. That's before you get ot the heads. You need to be realistic before you get started so you can finish what you begin

I had a very reputable machinist do all the machining work on my 400 and it cost me right at 600. That was with ARP bolts and regrinding the crank 10 under. The block was bored .040 over. And fully balanced rotating mass.
