So someone informed me that my left brake light was out so I replaced the bulb and still nothin. The socket looked like crap so I went ahead and replaced it since it was cheap hoping that would fix the issue but no such luck. While replacing the socket I checked for continuity and everything seemed to check out. Then after I turned the lights and the turn signal on and off a couple of times the brake light started working fine. When I went to leave work I noticed it wasn't working again. I turned the left blinker on and it works fine, then I turned on the hazards and the rear left wasn't flashing. After playing with the flasher button a few times the the light started working again (both flasher and brake) then stopped again. Any idea what the hack would cause that?
On a 92 it's more than likely that stupid multi-function switch.
Also known as the "turn signal/wiper/washer/hi beam/brake/hazard/make me a sandwich" switch.
The damn thing gets all screwed up inside because there's too much crap in too small of a place, and starts acting up. Supposedly you can take these apart and clean them? I don't know for sure, every time I've had one fail I just toss it and get a new FORD one from the junkyard.
"Junk" FORD parts are better than aftermarket "new" junk parts
Easy to change too... just unscrew the column covers, remove the ignition cylinder (key in, turn to run, push release button, pull cylinder out) and then you'll be able to get the cover off and see the 2 Torx screws that hold the multi switch in.

Ok cool! Thanks! My column surround is gone so I guess I'm already half way there.
Yep just open it up slowly so you don't lose any springs and you can get a good look at how it goes back together. It literally looked like a penny exploded inside due to 22 years of use. I wish I had slathered some dielectric grease on all the contact points but didn't think about at the time.
