Hey all,
The other day I snapped an axle on the truck..
1965 F100 with a 28 spline 9 inch.
I need to get this fixed quick, and really don't want to shell out for a new axle if I dont have too. So I'm thinking I'll try my luck at the local salvage yard.
Does anyone know what vehicles I should be looking around for?
There's only one slick Ford there..and I don't believe it has a rear end.
like I said, 9 inch so it should be pretty common. I just need a 28 spline and the rest of the dimensions to line up.

Thanks for this Bill, I'm going to try my luck at the salvage yard tomorrow.
You say this axle was used until '67 in the f100. I'm curious if any other vehicles will have the axle shaft I need. I know sometime in the 70's the trucks started getting 31 spline axles, but what about an early 70's truck or a car?
I read that small bearing axles come off with a 9/16 socket, and large with an 11/16.. but I remember using a 3/4 to unbolt the Axle plate. Any insight on this?
Thanks for that Bill! You potentially just savede a day of searching for the wrong part. Looks like if I can't find one I'll have to get creative. I'm sure after market would have something, I'm not the first to break this part.
