I was just given an 3015 SCT Tuner by a good friend. He traded his and didn't need it anymore and is practically brand new.
Problem is that he didn't return his rig back to stock before he traded it. Which means that his stock tune is still on the tuner.
Mine = 2006 6.0 Crewcab
His = 2007 6.0 Crewcab
after doing some reading online the (VXC) at the beginning of the VIN Number should be the same..........thus...... allowing me to just load his (Stock Tune) to my rig correct?
Did he unmarry the tuner from the truck he got rid of? If the answer is no, then you will need to get the tuner reset/unlocked from his vehicle before you use it.
If you know where the truck is, traded, take it for a test drive and return it to stock. If not, your out $150, which by the way is ridicules to punch a button.

This is money right here . Might want to drive something other than your 6.0 to the test drive
Important information: When buying a used SCT that has custom tunes written for someone else's truck, not all tunes will work on all trucks. Custom tune compatibility will depend on the PCM/ECU (truck computer) year strategy. The '03 and early '04 trucks have the '03 motor and PCM/ECU, the hex code strategy will start with VXA. The late '04 PCM/ECU will start with VXB.The 05-07 PCM/ECU will start with VXC . Notice the third letter, A,B,C. You can not interchange tunes written for a different year PCM/ECU. An example is, tunes written for a '03-early '04 PCM/ECU with a VXA, will not work on a PCM/ECU that has VXB (late '04). Don't be fooled by just the truck year, you need to know the year PCM/ECM strategy hex code. If you try loading a different year strategy onto a different year PCM/ECM, your truck will be "locked out/no start", and will either have to be towed to a dealer for a reflash, or contact SCT with your issue, so they can send you a "recovery file" to load your stock tune back into the PCM/ECU.
with this information would it be ok to load his '07 stock settings on my '06 (this would unlock the tuner ....... then load whatever tune I would like from the SCT?

or
just send off to SCT and call it a day?
The actual SCT unit is locked to the old truck. The part you're referencing is in regards to the custom tune files.

True, but then everbody you know would be running the sct tunes from one tuner, like installing a single cd of windows onto 20 pcs, back in the old days, or so i have heard...
