While trying to chase down some issues we tried to return my truck back to stock. Tried several times before we finally got the ECU back to stock. Unplugged the tuner and the ECU switched back to tow/performance mode. WTF would cause this???
I guess the way it felt and smoked. He was on Bully Dog tech support for an hour and they finally got it to revert back to stock mode and now the truck runs good again. Something screwy went with the tuner and now it's on its way back to BD to get fixed and then I'm gonna sell it.
I had a few problems like that with my superchips programmer. Over time i figured out if I hooked it up to the computer and updated it prior to hooking it up to the truck i wouldn't have that problem. Very inconvenient.
Is there a tuner/programmer out there that does what it should? Meaning adjusting timing for the tune you select to put in the truck?
When I was on the phone with BD yesterday they told me that the tuner I have does not adjust timing, basically with each setting you just get more fuel.
I believe they adjust timing with gas engines. It's a little more pricey, but if you want more out of your tuner a custom tuner such as DP-Tuner might be more what you're looking for. Especially if you have mods.
Buddy had a Edge unit, when he tried to flash the Tow tune (97 OBS) on it went haywire. I did a little searching and found that Edge would next him a "special" Edge unit to bring back his stock program. He tells me that Edge told him, "The electronics are getting up in years on these trucks. Things start to get dicey."
They recommended he find a reman'ed pcm and swap it in.
It depends on what you want/need. The forum sponsor DP Tuner has been used by many( including myself for 6+years), PHP has the Hydra which many other tuning companys have access to and can do their own custom tunes. There is Gearhead, Swamps, Brian at BTS, etc. All of them have greqt tunes and most have very good customer support. Tell us more about what you want, ie: switch on the fly, between tow, high idle, daily driver, race tunes, etc. do you need or want monitoring of parameters, etc.?
