2011 E-350 Tire Size Help Needed

I have a 2011 E-350 12 Passenger van and replacing the tires. The OEM tires are sized 225/75-16. I see that some E-350s come standard with 245/75-16. I'd like to go with the wider tire which also adds a little more height. They should fit just fine, but my question is why do some E-350s come with the 225 size, and others 245? Any recommendations on which size to go with? Is there a way to correct/program the computer with the new size so that the speedometer reads properly (I know it will not be off much, just asking).

Thanks for any help.

I've yet to see an E350 with anything less than 245/75's when properly outfitted.

The door sticker info should say 245/R75 tires. Personally I run 245/75-R16's on my E250 EB but 225/75-R16's are fine for a normal E250.

I've looked a few times at the used 2013 fleet E350 passenger vans at my local Ford dealer and virtually all of them have 225/75's as standard. I am assuming that they are the base tire size for E350's in recent years.

I like the idea of a larger tire myself--the 225's look pretty small on these vans. I know you can adjust for tire size via a programmer; not sure if a one time reflash of the existing PCM could be done.

Good luck,
George

We run both 225s and 245s on our fleet of '06-'11 e150-e350 and find there is slightly better fuel economy with 225s, plus they are slightly cheaper. We tried to switch all our 245 vans to 225s but the dealer said they could not calibrate tires for a downsize, only an upsize. That's my experience anyhow. I'd stick with 225s unless you have some serious need for 245s.

My door sticker calls out 225s. My 225s were part of a Michelin recall. All 225s were on backorder, so I went ahead with the 245 which I really like. The only thing is the dealer wants $119.00 to reset the computer to the different tire size.
