im thinking about painting my truck some time soon.
who has painted their truck recently?
i have a reg cab long bed.
little surface rust and a hole int he cab corner, but i could fix that.
im wanting a dark maroon and gun metal two tone, ill load a picture later of my idea.
if it proves to be too expensive, do you think it is possible to say buff my paint(its supposed to be dark metallic grey but looks like a faded gun metal/matte black) and then shoot a clear over it for a couple of years til i can afford the full paint job( including a powder coating of the stock brush gaurd
Dont no too much about paint and what not, but if buffing it is cheap its worth a shot, if you do paint it post a pic, your truck would look so nice with that paint.
thanks! its got plastidipped bumpers and smaller tires now:/
this is how it shined up with some engine de-greaser on it(actuallly oiled it up a lil, this is why i say the buff will work.)
im currently putting a new motor and 5 swap in it. im deployed right now, but when i get back the motor will be finished and everything will be swapped in. there will be a big thread on it.
next year might be paint. i really like the colors though, and i think it would great too!
So my best bet, is to wait for my next deployment and drop the truck off and expect it done when I return 6-8 months later?
Yes, with one exception - replace "expect" with "hope". My experience with two different guys working on the same truck is that what they say the timeframe will be is always, ALWAYS, much less time than what it is.
Basically it boils down to the type of shop you take it to. If it is a full-blown restoration shop it will still take more time but not all that much more. But, it will cost arms and legs more. If you take it to a shop that will work it in between other, more lucrative, work like collisions it won't cost as much but the time will be much longer. Take your pick and pay the piper.
Awesome. Well that pretty much gives me another reason to deploy lol, I couldn't handle not being able to drive my truck if I was stateside, it sucks being out, but I can't drive it here.
The guy doing Dads truck is charging $6500, and that's full frame-off and repairing any rust and dents found. And I paid the original guy $6500 as well, although the second guy said his price would have been the same if #1 hadn't touched it. But, that # doesn't include blasting and painting the frame, which is another $500.
So, depending on the condition of your truck, the person you find, and what all you want done maybe $6000 - 6500.
damn.. lol everything i do doubles it in price.
tires cost the amount of truck( 2k)
engine build and tranny is around 4k
so then paint will probably be like 8k? lol im going to probably do htat, but also have the bumpers sandblasted and powdercoated in a rugged something that matches the gun metal color.
BUT! my lift wont cost that much!
Thank you for your service. Please be careful over there.
As mentioned prep is the key if you want to do it yourself. But if you want a show truck , a pro might be the way to go. Check with other members in the area and see if they have any recommendations.
Thank you.
I'm only in Japan this time, Korea was fun when they started shooting those missiles, got to go flex our fighter jets
I'm not wanting a show truck, because I hate these people with mall crawlers, but I don't want a maaco job.
This was just a tire kicker to see how feasible it was and how soon. So paint has been put back, I think I'll drop 2k on my lift before I do the paint.
What kind of lift were you planning on getting? I am planning on getting a cheap skyjacker 6" suspension lift, I dont fancy the lift I have on it now, its 2" suspension and 2" body.
Best kit I've ever seen, I'll get Fox shox or bilstiens and a custom leaf pack for the rear, I can't use block with the trq my truck will have with my motor.
Oh! I forgot about shackle flips for the rear! Probably a new set of f250 springs and a shackle flip for the about 6" of lift and remove my factory 2" block. I LOVE the rake btw.
How's your truck sit? Ride like a brick too I figure?
yeah I hate that body lifts, the guy I bought it from is actually missing like 4 of that rubber/plastic what ever they're made of spacers, so want to put that 6" suspension lift to get more travel. That kit looks super sweet and the bilstien shocks I really liked, had them before.
