M5R2 advice
So a couple of months ago I was driving my younger brothers 1991 F150 XLT Lariat, I shifted into 2nd and it started acting funny. I put it in nuetral and tried to return it to 2nd, when i did this the shifter went into second but after I left off the clutch it acted like it wasn't in gear. It just revved up. I Coasted into a parking lot and shut off and restarted the vehicle. I shifted to 1st gear and it acted the same way it did in second. 3rd, 4th, 4th, and reverse still work. I had to start it out in 3rd to get it home.
The engine is the 302/5.0 and the transmission is the M5R2. I've been told its the Synchros and to get a new tranny but after reading some posts on here I'm wondering if its the Rails and forks. Any suggestions?

My guess is the latter. 1st and 2nd are together, as are 3 & 4 and 5 & R. Bad synchros would prevent shifting into a gear at all unless you rev match. No idea how to fix it though, mine has 300k miles of slop but still works fine, so I'll let an expert take over.

It was in fact the Shifter fork. I just opened the access hatch and pulled the top cover off. The 1-2 fork was extremely worn. I also found that whoever worked on it last didn't replace one of the rubber seals on the back of the shift rails. I'm going to replace the fork and rubber seals after I clean off years of built up grime on it.
