Mine runs between 192° and 196° when towing. I've never seen it hit 200° and I've really watched it closely. I wonder why my numbers are cooler than others? Towing a fifth wheel or a large frontal area trailer just as much as anyone else but I never see 200°?

Oh well, I'm not concerned, it is strange though.

Probably terrain...but then again I know you would pull some hills as well?

I40 and I75 have enough decent grades. Nothing like the Rockies but enough to make these trucks work.

Going up from the East IMO is not as bad as coming in from the West. But the climb is long from Salida to the top and then you fall into Sargent on the West.

My transmission will warm slowly to the low 200s, sometimes as high as 210f before it settles back down to 201f. In fact, in summer temps both oil and trans temp will eventually settle to 201f-203f unloaded on a long highway cruise. After the initial settle, the transmission temperature hardly moves and only the oil temp will increase if climbing a grade. I imagine the initial trans temp bump is before all thermostats have opened and both coolant loops have had the chance to stabilize.

It is weird that different trucks see different temps. Mine seems to be at the high end, especially considering it will get to 210f unloaded and others towing are in the 190s. Wonder why? Either way, no issues yet!

UPDATE

Thanks everyone for the information and help. Thanks to a quick return to the dealership, all is working properly now (or appears to be).

The link below is to another thread where I shared the gory details...
