Spare tire key
2006 f350. Tried to take the tire down but I'm missing the key for the end. Is their any where to find another one or a way to get it down with out beating something up

To lower your spare tire without a key: First remove the plastic tube (guide) get a 6 point 9/16 socket and "gently massage" it on the lock with a extension and a hammer. Re install the guide. Now you have a new style lock in the form of a 3/8 drive socket. With 2 extensions it fits a ratchet and you can use battery powered drill to make it even easier.

1) I cut the cable on mine.
2) Took the tire down.
3) Pulled the tube(its hard to do with the tire in place)
4) Removed the "key". Mine had a really special "flower looking" thing on it, it would of been impossible to get any sort of socket or anything on it. Now you can use the square extension to lower it.
5) went to tractor supply and used a couple cable clamps to reinstall the tire holder.
6) raise er back up!
I did this all in my garage, on a cool day, with lots of tools available.
I couldnt imagine the frustration someone might have being stuck in the middle of the desert on a 100 degree day, trying to get the spare down and realizing they do not have the key...I would suggest everyone fix there's before that would happen.

Bismic is right on. The 9/16-6point socket will "grip" the key just fine with a a few taps from a hammer. Only missing info is once the tires is removed, slide under the truck with a big screwdriver and pop the lock/socket out of the lifting mechanism (you want your socket back right?) that tube is sort of in the way but you can get it. With the lock piece removed you can now raise and lower the spare with the factory crank.
Another option if you live or work in a theft prone area is to go to the dealer and get a new key. There's only like a dozen or so and they can match it up and order you one.
